About Us
The #1 goal of the Merrimack Valley Central Labor Council is to improve the lives of working families in the Merrimack Valley. We work to achieve this by supporting a working family legislative agenda, building and organizing grassroots political action campaigns, partnering with community organizations and educating and training our members about issues affecting their communities.
We are a coalition of local unions who represent thousands of union members and their families in the Merrimack Valley. Delegates meet monthly to discuss issues of common interest and to plan support for our struggles.
The Merrimack Valley Central Labor Council is chartered by the National AFL-CIO and we have adopted the AFL-CIO Union Cities Commitment to:
- Build a mobilization & solidarity based labor movement around a common agenda.
- Build real political power through grassroots political action.
- Support a working families legislative agenda.
- Use our power and leverage to assist those workers trying to form unions.
- Work in partnership with community organizations that share our vision of social and economic justice.
- Train our members to be ready to effectively respond to challenges confronting our movement.
Why should you join the Merrimack Valley Central Labor Council?
- Improve communications between unions in the area.
- Mobilize union members in partnership with the community in support of local labor and community struggles.
- Assist in the screening and endorsement process of candidates for elected office.
- Participate in our annual legislative breakfast with fellow union, community and political leaders.
- Increase public understanding of what labor contributes to the community.
- Help support new union organizing.
- Participate in strategic planning to increase labor's power in developing good jobs in the region.
- Participate in leadership development and skills training.
Membership meetings are held monthly on the first Thursday of every month at 6pm. Meeting locations alternate between Lowell (MVCLC Office) and Lawrence (Lawrence Heritage State Park). For information about affiliation, contact Tom Raiche at tom.raiche@gmail.com.
