MA AFL-CIO Statement on Amber Czech's Gruesome Murder

“Amber Czech’s gruesome murder is an inexcusable tragedy and underscores the fact that tradeswomen have endured hostility, harassment, and threats for far too long,” said MA AFL-CIO President Chrissy Lynch. “The construction industry is already inherently dangerous. No tradeswoman, or any worker, deserves to fear physical violence on the job. Workplaces must be safe for workers to speak up for themselves and their co-workers. The toxic treatment and intimidation of tradeswomen cannot be tolerated, and will not be ignored. Early intervention is the best way to prevent further harm to our tradeswomen. Silence is not an option. Employers and unions must double down on efforts to make jobsites safer for all.
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO extends our deepest condolences to Amber’s family and loved ones. Amber will not be forgotten. Let her death be a call to action for the construction industry across America to protect all workers, including tradeswomen, from violence and unsafe working conditions on the job.”
