Massachusetts Unions Celebrate Union-Made Blue Wave
Massachusetts Labor Federation (AFL-CIO) President Chrissy Lynch issued the following statement on the 2026 midterm election results – a union-made blue wave – that included the election of pro-worker majorities in Congress and fierce advocates for working people at home in Massachusetts:
“The 2026 blue wave is union-made. Working people voted in massive numbers to reject the division and greed of the Trump administration and its billionaire club, and elect people who will prioritize building the economy we deserve. Union voters made up a historic high of 15% of the overall electorate and exit polls show union households voted 21 points more for Democrats than Republicans nationwide, driving victories that were decisive for control of Congress and State Houses across the country. This is a direct result of the AFL-CIO’s commitment to turn out millions more union members in 2026. Across the country, working people voted to elect candidates who will put working families first by fighting to lower costs and champion union jobs. The mandate from the American people to State Houses across the country and to the new Congress is clear: prioritize ending the status quo that has for too long only benefited the wealthy elites and build an economy where working hard and playing by the rules earns you a secure spot in the middle class.
“In Massachusetts, we lined up a strong defense against the Trump administration’s attacks on our freedom and economic security. The Massachusetts labor movement is proud to congratulate Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll on their overwhelming victory. The Healey-Driscoll Administration has been a friend to labor unions and working people across this Commonwealth, delivering real wins to help ease the burden of high costs despite the downstream impacts of a hostile and reckless federal government. We are looking forward to continuing our close partnership and collaboration to make Massachusetts the best place to live in the country.
“We are also excited to congratulate Senator Ed Markey and our congressional delegation on their reelections. Congratulations to the new member of the delegation, Representative-elect Dan Koh, who has spent his entire professional career fighting for and alongside working people and who will continue that fight down in Washington. We need both fierce defenders and strong advocates in Congress fighting on behalf of the working class and this delegation has both in spades.
“Finally, we congratulate Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell, Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin, and State Treasurer Deb Goldberg on their re-elections. Their leadership and stability is crucial for Massachusetts to beat back continued attacks from the Trump administration. We look forward to continuing our work with our constitutional officers to protect working people’s interests at home.”
